In 2004, as the Chairperson of the local 100 Transport Workers Union History Committee, my dream became a reality when the Metropolitan Transportation Authority opened it`s Centennial Celebration by sponsoring:

– Our Granville T. Woods Subway Commemorative Exhibit.
– 4 million GTW Metro Cards ( 2 million in Spanish ).

Shortly thereafter, I decided to establish the David L. Head Non-profit Foundation to ensure the legacies of minority founders within America are not lost or forgotten. Although it has blossomed in certain areas, I needed to formulate strategic planning with a qualified consultant for a more sustainable future. I met with Chaora Berry, Managing Consultant with Precise Measures.

Essentially, a 4 step SWOT analysis was provided as an effective method to maximize opportunities, while minimizing negative internal and external factors:

Strengths – describe the positive attributes, tangibles, internal to your organization. They are within your control.
Weakness – are aspects of the foundation ( board ) that detract from its value or effectiveness.
Opportunities – are external attractive factors that represent reasons your organization is likely to prosper.
Threats – include external factors beyond our control that could place strategic planning at risk. You have no control over these, but you may benefit by having contingency plans to address them if they should occur.

Consulting services entailed:

– A comprehensive 10 year management plan to attain objectives.
– Updated/Upgraded our financial reporting via yearly 990 tax preparation to position my foundation for further funding opportunities.
– Identified numerous funding sources relating to history, education, and STEM initiatives.
– Corrected accounting methods to properly report and monitor expenditures, and revenues on a monthly basis.
– Raise awareness through digital marketing, hosting/collaborate/presentation of programs.

Our foundation will continue to brainstorm developmental ideas with Precise Measures Consulting that will expend and elevate in a meaningful way to youths, adults, seniors, and society.
